Such is the size of Australia and the size of its wine industry, it can quite easily viewed as an amalgamation of all the different grape varieties and styles of wine of Europe. After all the original vineyards of Australia were in the main set up by experienced wine growers who emigrated to Australia from the different wine growing countries within Europe. Wine is produced in every Australian State and throughout this large continent there are more than fifty designated wine regions, all contributing to the fact that Australia is the World's fourth largest exporter of wine and fortified wine combined.
Adam and Eve forgot Australia since it has no natural grapes of its own and todays most popular grape varieties (which the majority of originated from Europe in the late 18th and early 19th centuries) are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Riesling. Pinot Noir is trying its best to establish a presence, but competing with the high quality Pinot Noir wines from the perfect soil and climate conditions of New Zealand's South Island is proving very difficult.
Australian wines, especially the reds have made enormous strides forward on the quality front over the last thirty years or so. The richness, depth of flavour, complexity with the capability of long cellaring have all contributed to Australia's ability to command similar high prices to the top growths of France Italy and Spain. A good example being "Penfold's Grange." The white wines of Australia seem to be dominated by the chardonnay grape. The conditions in many parts of Australia for producing this wine are ideal and is reflected in the very large volumes of easy drinking produced, as well as top of the range chardonnay wines for special occasions.

Rose, Rogers & Rufus, Barossa is a pale coral pink in colour. A fresh, lively, and juicy rosé made with Grenache grapes for those lovely red fruit notes of strawberry and raspberry. Reminiscent of a summer’s day with lovely fresh fruit flavours such as alpine strawberries, peaches, cherry blossom, and sea spray combined with a pebbly mineral note. A short time in American Oak gives this wine it`s full body and silky texture yet still delightfully fresh.
Dandelion Vineyards, \"Enchanted Garden of the Eden Valley\" Riesling features classic aromas of citrus zest, lemon foliage and hints of dragon fruit flowers are etched by a clear steely minerality. This is an attractively textural wine displaying the variety\'s intense purity. Bone-dry, its structure and length is underpinned by bracing acidity.
Dandelion Vineyards, \"Pride of the Fleurieu\" Cabernet Sauvignon is an intense, regal purple with bright edges. Scented blueberries, cassis and anise aromas with sweet spice, cedar and blackberry notes. The palate is rich, deep and full-flavoured, with blueberry, black plums, figs and milk chocolate flavours. Tobacco, spearmint and soft powdery Cabernet tannins are softened by smooth, mouth-filling fruit before a really extended finish.
Dandelion Vineyards, \"Lionheart of the Barossa\" Shiraz is intense crimson in colour, with a youthful purple hue. On the nose, it has lifted aromas of ripe blackberries, blueberries, spicy pepper notes and Christmas pudding-like spices. Generous, mouth-filling sweet blackberries, raspberries and plums are pronounced on the palate, with sweet spice. It has firm, but fine, tannins and dark chocolate nuances continue onto the lengthy palate.
Willunga 100, McLaren Vale Shiraz/Viognier is well structured wine is deep purple in colour. On the nose, there are notes of plum, chocolate and cedar. The palate is rich and luscious with ripe black fruits harnessed by silky texture and supple tannins resulting in a long, fragrant finish.
Dandelion Vineyards, \"Lioness of McLaren Vale\" Shiraz on the nose has impressive purity of fruit showing lush scents of summer pudding with lifted red fruits, berries and a hit of cinnamon. Black cherries, Damson plums, mulberries and milk chocolate undertones. The palate is generous and mouth filling with sweet blackberry, raspberry and plums cover the palate with lashings of sweet spice.
Samuel\'s Collection, Eden Valley, Viognier, is pale lemon with green hues, with a funky mix of pretty aromas of white flowers, ginger and jasmine with hints of apricot. The palate is creamy, rich and long with flavours including fresh apricot nectar and almond meal, leading into a succulent mid palate with bright stone fruit flavours and Asian five spice on the finish. After harvest about 60% of the fruit was gently pressed directly to barrels, the rest to stainless steel tanks. At blending, the barrels of wine that have not made the Virgilius blend, are also included in the assemblage. Fermented & matured for 10 months in older French oak barriques and puncheons (60% of the blend).
Peter Lehmann Layers, Barossa Valley Red is vibrant red with a burst of dark cherry and spice on the bouquet leading to a softly textured finish. Shiraz delivers fruit depth and structure, while the Tempranillo is firm and savoury. Mourvedre brings a wild earthiness and all are bound together by the aromatic and spicy nature of Grenache which softens the palate.
Plantagenet Three Lions Chardonnay, Great Southern in Western Australia is a delicate and pure fruited style of Chardonnay, bursting with stone fruit and lemon blossom aromas. Lively flavours of grapefruit and lemon meringue are balanced by a subtle richness, while nervy cool climate acidity brings great persistence and just a hint of minerality.
Plantagenet Three Lions Sauvignon Blanc, Great Southern, Western Australia has lifted fresh aromas of white peach and gooseberry. Displaying a vibrant palate, full of intense tropical fruits, zesty lime and passionfruit. A subtle textural element adds weight while refreshing natural acidity provides focus and leads to a crisp, lingering finish.
The Dreamer Viognier, Philip Shaw Wines, Orange in Australia is a light straw yellow with hues of green it displays a lightness and softness like that of a dream. Mellow lemon, tangerine peel and zesty sherbet draw you into this wine. To be drunk straight from a cold fridge, it sure is refreshing! Juicy acidity plays in well with the sweetness of this wine, creating a beautifully balanced and elegant drop.
This Willunga 100 Mclaren Vale Grenache is a splendid, perfumed, spicy expression of Grenache. With aromas of fresh red fruit and silky tannins on the palate, this wine has great substance and structure. It is well-balanced, with lingering hints of clove.
Willunga 100 Mclaren Vale Cabernet/Shiraz has Intense mulberry, plum and a hint of eucalyptus which are in balance with the rich Shiraz characters. The palate is a smooth blend of the Cabernet tannins coupled with rich cherry and spice from the bolder Shiraz and a smooth lingering finish.
This Willunga 100 Mclaren Vale Tempranillo exhibits aromatics of black cherries, sweet spice and dark fruits. The palate has an abundance of blackberries and raspberries that are given a lift on the finish by a crisp acidity. A seam of fine tannins runs through the fruit, giving the wine good length and a savoury finish.
The Hedonist Shiraz (Organic) has a nose of raspberries, mulberries, cherries, a little leather and some cracked black peppercorns. On the palate lively red fruits follow through, matched with bright acidity. Juicy in the middle with a touch of nutmeg oak and fruit tannin giving exceptional balance and length.
Chambers Rosewood Rutherglen Muscat is typically tawny red in colour with aromas of rose petals, raisins and dried fruit. These characters carry through to the palate, balanced with fresh acidity. The wine is unctuous and rich yet zesty and balanced.
