Victoria is the second smallest state but is home to more regions and individual wineries than any other state in Australia. It also has the greatest diversity of regional and site climates, which allows for the production of virtually every imaginable wine style from fine sparkling wine, high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, age-worthy Cabernet, savoury Shiraz and the historic fortified wines of Rutherglen.
In the 1880s Victoria was Australia’s largest wine producing state. The ebb and flow of prosperity due to gold mining and the eventual outbreaks of Phylloxera put a temporary halt to production in many areas. A resurgence of interest was reignited in the 1970s.
From stylish and refined Chardonnay to rich, voluptuous Shiraz; intense and complex Pinot Noir to unique and decadent fortified wines, you’ll find a wine to suit any occasion from the diverse regions of Victoria.

The Story Wines Grampians Shiraz, 2014
The Story Grampians Shiraz comes from three vineyards; 40% whole bunches, matured for 11 months in used French oak. Impressive colour and equally impressive depth to its medium to full-bodied palate; black fruits, licorice strap and an inbuilt framework of savoury tannins all join hands. A long and prosperous future ahead. One of the best Grampians the winery has produced.

Winemakers Gary Farr and his son Nick are behind By Farr. Gary has made wine in Australia (at Bannockburn) and Burgundy (he worked 10 vintages at Domaine Dujac) since the early 1980s. Today, from 33 acres in Geelong, 80 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, they make small quantities of single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that rank with Australia\'s best. Their three vineyards are Sangreal, Farrside and Tout Pres. Grapes are hand- harvested and they use mainly whole bunch fermentation to lift aromas and give texture and structure on the palate.
By Farr, Geelong Shiraz has a powerful nose, with the depth and complexity of cool-climate shiraz. This wine is spiced with pepper and mineral elements, leaning towards earthy. The co-fermented viognier adds a little richness to both the bouquet and palate, which has a very pleasant sweetness to start, followed by intense fruit and earthy long tannins to complete the delicate structure and overall elegance of the wine.
