AUSTRALIAN WINES ONLINE
Such is the size of Australia and the size of its wine industry, it can quite easily viewed as an amalgamation of all the different grape varieties and styles of wine of Europe. After all the original vineyards of Australia were in the main set up by experienced wine growers who emigrated to Australia from the different wine growing countries within Europe. Wine is produced in every Australian State and throughout this large continent there are more than fifty designated wine regions, all contributing to the fact that Australia is the World's fourth largest exporter of wine and fortified wine combined.
Adam and Eve forgot Australia since it has no natural grapes of its own and todays most popular grape varieties (which the majority of originated from Europe in the late 18th and early 19th centuries) are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Riesling. Pinot Noir is trying its best to establish a presence, but competing with the high quality Pinot Noir wines from the perfect soil and climate conditions of New Zealand's South Island is proving very difficult.
Australian wines, especially the reds have made enormous strides forward on the quality front over the last thirty years or so. The richness, depth of flavour, complexity with the capability of long cellaring have all contributed to Australia's ability to command similar high prices to the top growths of France Italy and Spain. A good example being "Penfold's Grange." The white wines of Australia seem to be dominated by the chardonnay grape. The conditions in many parts of Australia for producing this wine are ideal and is reflected in the very large volumes of easy drinking produced, as well as top of the range chardonnay wines for special occasions.
The following are the most important and well known wine regions of Australia and Alexander Hadleigh wine Merchants, Southampton, Hampshire, UK maintain a very large selection of wines from each region for sale online or at our Southampton shop: Barossa Valley wines, Clare Valley Wines, Hunter Valley Wines, South and South Eastern Australia Wines, McLaren Vale Wines, Rutherglen Wines, Victoria Wines, Yarra Valley Wines, Coonawarra Wines, Western Australia and Margaret River Wines and Tasmania Wines.

"Mount Edelstone", Old Vine Shiraz,Henschke, 2016
Full bodied red wine, deep, rich and wonderfully concentrated
\"Mount Edelstone\", Old Vine Shiraz,Henschke is from low yielding 70 year old ungrafted vines, producing intensity of colour, depth of fruit flavours, complexity and palate length. Hand picked in Mid April and matured in new and seasoned American and French oak hogheads for 18 months,LIMITED STOCK.

"Hill of Grace" Eden Valley Shiraz 2016, Henschke, Australia 2018
\"Hill of Grace\" Eden Valley Shiraz 2016, Henschke, Australia, Henschke\'s is locked up tight behind a stubborn wall of firm tannins. Scents of pencil shavings, mocha, bay leaf, mixed berries and plums appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate starts off broad, expansive and creamy, then draws to a chewy, drying finish. There\'s ample concentration, length, complexity and a definitive track record of aging, so put this version away for several years while waiting for it to emerge and show its true glory. If you absolutely must drink it now, decanting for a couple of hours helps soften the tannins and brings the fruit forward.
