AUSTRALIAN WINES ONLINE
Such is the size of Australia and the size of its wine industry, it can quite easily viewed as an amalgamation of all the different grape varieties and styles of wine of Europe. After all the original vineyards of Australia were in the main set up by experienced wine growers who emigrated to Australia from the different wine growing countries within Europe. Wine is produced in every Australian State and throughout this large continent there are more than fifty designated wine regions, all contributing to the fact that Australia is the World's fourth largest exporter of wine and fortified wine combined.
Adam and Eve forgot Australia since it has no natural grapes of its own and todays most popular grape varieties (which the majority of originated from Europe in the late 18th and early 19th centuries) are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Riesling. Pinot Noir is trying its best to establish a presence, but competing with the high quality Pinot Noir wines from the perfect soil and climate conditions of New Zealand's South Island is proving very difficult.
Australian wines, especially the reds have made enormous strides forward on the quality front over the last thirty years or so. The richness, depth of flavour, complexity with the capability of long cellaring have all contributed to Australia's ability to command similar high prices to the top growths of France Italy and Spain. A good example being "Penfold's Grange." The white wines of Australia seem to be dominated by the chardonnay grape. The conditions in many parts of Australia for producing this wine are ideal and is reflected in the very large volumes of easy drinking produced, as well as top of the range chardonnay wines for special occasions.
The following are the most important and well known wine regions of Australia and Alexander Hadleigh wine Merchants, Southampton, Hampshire, UK maintain a very large selection of wines from each region for sale online or at our Southampton shop: Barossa Valley wines, Clare Valley Wines, Hunter Valley Wines, South and South Eastern Australia Wines, McLaren Vale Wines, Rutherglen Wines, Victoria Wines, Yarra Valley Wines, Coonawarra Wines, Western Australia and Margaret River Wines and Tasmania Wines.

Campbells Grand Rutherglen Muscat,
Campbells Grand Rutherglen Muscat is a rich, deep brown colour. There is a bouquet of complex raisined fruit characters, coffee bean, dark chocolate and a distinct ‘aged oak’ lift. An incredible depth of luscious raisined fruit floods the front palate. Walnut, dark chocolate, ground coffee bean, vanilla and nutty dry mature oak characters add complexity, before an incredibly long, drawn out finish.
Morris of Rutherglen, Old Premium Rare Liqueur Rutherglen Muscat
Morris of Rutherglen, Old Premium Rare Liqueur Rutherglen Muscat features intense, concentrated and luscious flavours with aged complexity to this wine. These are complimented by fresh fruit characters from the younger wines. In the glass, the wine is a dark olive brown with a green tinge on the rim. An intense bouquet of raisin fruit and soft woody characters delight the nose. The palate shows great depth, length and complexity with rich and luscious flavours of sweet spices, dried raisins and christmas pudding.
