Buy Red and White Burgundy Wines Online with UK and Worldwide Delivery
Burgundy and Bordeaux must have the mother status of all wines and wine growing regions on the planet Earth. At times their wines roll of the top of the tongue as if no other wines or regions exist…..a slight exageration, but some traditionalists may agree. Alexander Hadleigh Wine Merchants based in Southampton, Hampshire, UK are huge fans of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines made employing the traditional Burgundian methods.
The wine catchment area of Burgundy is elongated and far-reaching in geographical size, starting with Chablis in the far north and moving South includes Cote de Nuits, Cote de Beaune, Cote Chalonnaise, Maconnaise and the furtherest region south is of course Beaujolais.
Burgundy has three prominent grape varieties, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay, all three being well represented throughout the listings of Alexander Hadleigh Wine Merchants. We also list the non prominent grape variety ....Bourgogne Aligote.
The enormous expanse of Burgundy supports a listing of nearly 100 Wine Appellation Controlees. With such scale careful selection of growers and wines is paramount since quality and value for money can be an issue and certainly was an issue a few decades back when a few Negociants were specialising in blending. Even though these practices are long gone, quality will always vary within regions as big as Burgundy and research, knowledge and reputation are extremely important. Many knowledgeable wine experts believe making wines just utilising a single grape variety as per the Burgundy Appellation for red and white wines is much more difficult than producing wine from a blend of different grape varieties as per Bordeaux. If a vintage in France one year is not so good, then the skills of the wine maker in Bordeaux has a better chance of producing a reasonable wine than perhaps an even more skilled wine maker in Burgundy who has only a single grape variety to work with.
Burgundy has many different challenges each year and at Alexander Hadleigh Wine Merchants we take great pride
in sourcing and selecting our well balanced portfolio of traditional quality Burgundy wines.
Its so important we deliver Pinot Noir wines of distinction always incorporating the intensity and richness of this unique grape. Our Chardonnay selections must provide great emphasis on concentration of flavour combined with long drawn out succulence and of course that golden colour always associated with fine white Burgundy wines.
