Buy Red and White Bordeaux Wines Online with UK and Worldwide Delivery
"Bordeaux" a great or the greatest winemaking region in the world ? Many say it occupies a position at the pinnacle of world wine making.
The Bordeaux wine region certainly has the pedigree of greatness, its longevity of status, tradition and world wide fame goes back many centuries, some will say Burgundy is its equal and no doubt that debate will also last for centuries.
Sadly too many people view Bordeaux wines as too expensive and not affordable. Yes, many wines and sub-regions are in that category and that is why the perception of only high prices continues to prevail. But, by careful research, viewing a good wine merchants wine list or talking to, many a affordable red and white wines of excellent quality can be acquired and thoroughly enjoyed.
Alexander Hadleigh Wine Merchants, Southampton, Hampshire,UK hold significant stock in store and online of Bordeaux red and white wines at prices to suit most tastes and budgets.
Fine wine collectors and investors do dominate a large sector of the Bordeaux market.(as they do in Burgundy) The Medoc with its five designated growths, St. Emilion and its premier grand cru classe, the top wines of Pomerol and Graves and then the great white wines of Graves, Sauternes and Barsac are all monopolised by these fine wine enthusiasts. But, Bordeaux being such a huge wine growing region does produce very good quality wines to suit most budgets. Putting the top growths to one side, there is another quality sector with an appellation title of "Cru Bourgeois" with prices that can vary from a 3rd growth Medoc wine down to a much more reasonable cost. Following on from Cru Bourgeois we have dozens of "Petit Chateaux" within the famous Bordeaux sub-regions, again producing fine wines at a reasonable price. Finally we have hundreds of vineyards occupying the outer regions and so-called satelites of greater Bordeaux. Many producing excellent quality Bordeaux style wines at prices competing with the rest of the wine world.
One big advantage Bordeaux has over some other single grape or limited variety French regions is ability to successfully grow a wide variety of grapes and then its wine making ability to blend and deliver fine wines, even at times of indifferent vintages. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are the most widely grown red grapes. Merlot being more dominent in the wines of Pomerol and St. Emilion, while Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way throughout the Medoc.
The three white grape varieties of Bordeaux are Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Bordeaux white wines are synonymous with outstanding dessert wines and it’s a well known fact this sub-region of Sauternes and Barsac are producing a collection of many of the worlds best known and most expensive sweet wines. But, then we have another Bordeaux surprise in its sub-region of "Graves" also producing some of the world’s best and most expensive dry white wines e.g. "Haut Brion" and "Domaine de Chevalier" who also produce great top of the range red wines.

Chateau La Clotte Saint Emilion Grand Cru has real finesse and delicacy, fresh and supple with a lovely bouquet, very high proportion of Merlot. This polished red wine piles on the oak, with toast, mocha and spice notes. But there\'s a core of blackberry fruit, and the firm tannins give way to a finish with lingering graphite, anise and floral accents. 1208 cases made,
Chateau Haut-Beausejour St Estephe Cru Bourgeois Magnum has a deep red colour in the glass with purple glints. Complex, fresh and fruity on the nose. More dark fruit and supple tannins balance well with the acidity and notes of soft warm spice. Oak ageing provides vanilla and more spice flavours on the long finish.
Chateau Malartic Lagraviere, Grand Cru Classe, Pessac Leognan,The color is intense, deep red with hints of violet, with a nose that is powerful, complex, rich, extremely elegant, refined and very deep. Various notes of red fruit (blackcurrants, raspberries). Concentrated, pure nose, with a smokiness and a minerality that istypical of this wine. A smooth, rich, full-bodied attack. The palate is distinguished and elegant, with refined tannin structure. The same aromatic profile as the nose develops, with intense fruit, lovely minerality and pleasant smoky notes. The palate has superb length and supple tannins, making Château Malartic-Lagravière 2012 already very accessible, while developing a complexity that suggests it will improve further with age.
Chateau La Tour Figeac, Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe, has a nose and mouth of cassis, cherry, lightly oaked. Full bodied and well balanced but smooth, silky and approachable, good long lasting powers.
Chateau Climens 1er Grand Cru Classe Sauternes-Barsac 1981 has a nose which is fresh and bright, with richer nuances suggestive of subtle botrytis, orange and apricot, and also a little almond paste and lemon meringue. It is mainly the sweet and scented fruit that dominates though, the firmly citrus-dominated character even nuanced by a little peach juice. The palate has a very fine, supple, gentle character, with some good bite to it but the overall impression is one of refined and subtle elegance rather than exuberance or impressive concentration, Limited Stock Available,
Chateau de Pez St Estephe Cru Bourgeois Magnum has a terrific texture and opulence, sweet supple tannins with copious quantities of rich red berries. On the latter palate, roasted coffee, blackcurrant, black cherries and soft spice. Full-bodied and pure, drinking well today, but will be capable of lasting 20-30 years.
Chateau Climens 1er Grand Cru Classe Sauternes-Barsac 1989 has an expressive nose which opens to show floral, herbal and vanilla notes as well as a pungent minerally quality. Very sweet but very suave, with fresh but perfectly integrated acidity serving to frame and intensify the superb, mineral-and-citric fruit. The harmoniousness of this wine is truly striking. Very, very long and subtle on the aftertaste. A great Climens, Limited Stock Available,
Chateau Pontet-Canet, Pauillac, France is an outstanding wine. This impeccably run, biodynamically farmed estate of Alfred Tesseron goes from strength to strength. The 2012 triumphs once again with its notes of dark plum, blackcurrant, licorice and almost a hint of truffle, its full-bodied, supple tannins, and beautiful, expensive mouthfeel. Complex and deep, this dense ruby/purple-colored wine may not be at the level of the 2009 or 2010, but it is a successful wine in this vintage, and a significant wine in 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035.
Chateau Climens 1er Grand Cru Classe Sauternes-Barsac 1991 is surprisingly developed with a quite beautiful dark golden colour. Very fresh and easy to drink. Medium yellow-straw, lovely oaky nose, spicy, lemony botrytis, soft, sweet, concentrated, silky, spicy, perfect balance, a touch dry from oak but superb for the vintage; very good length, Limited Stock Available
Sweet, deep bodied , lusciously rich, a classic dessert wine
Chateau d\'Yquem, 1er Grand Cru Classe, Half Bottle is an exceptional vintage, comparable with 1947, but with more of everything. This vintage, with 1990, must be the greatest pair of Sauternes since 1928 and 1929, Limited Stock Available
Chateau Le Tertre Roteboeuf Saint Emilion Grand Cru,This has a beautiful, lifted nose with stunning definition and purity, a lot of vanillary new oak, very modern in style, but quite sensuous and voluptuous. Cassis, blueberry jam and a touch of orange sorbet. The palate is rounded on the entry, touches of roasted herbs inflected the succulent, gamey black fruit with racy acidity on the elegant, harmonious finish. Very polished. This is a sumptuous, gorgeous Saint Emilion
Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou 2eme Cru Saint Julien 1970 is an amazing wine from a top-flight Chateau, this wine displays a remarkable balance of fruit, earth tones, and a tremendous finish. This wine is ready and will probably age another 10 years, Limited stocks available,
Chateau Palmer 3eme Cru Classe Margaux 1970 offers an expressive nose of forest floor, earth, cinnamon, tobacco, cassis, stone and cedar wood aromas. With the texture of silk, wrapped in velvet, this elegant Chateau Palmer ends with a refined, plush, earthy, cassis and spice finish. This is fully mature.
