Historically Argentina wine has its roots in Spain and to a smaller degree Italy and for most of its history has been more interested in producing high volumes of wine for local consumption and consequently quality and exports were virtually non-existent.
Change within the wine industry of Argentina came around the second half of the Nineteen Nineties and today the situation has been dramatically reversed. The Mendoza Region and the Unco Valley have now built a high reputation worldwide for producing top quality wines and a select number of vineyards such as Bodega Aleanna and Bodega Colome are now producing exceptional quality wines that can stand up to and match the best in Europe and prices reflect this statement.
Over the past few years Argentine Malbec has grown in popularity, especially throughout the UK. The vibrant purple crimson colour and firm flavoursome tannins are seen as a result of high altitude vineyards, lots of minerals deep in the soil and a very long growing season. Malbec at its best has a purity of rich fruit and profound depth of flavour and then further complexity and concentration is brought out through many months of ageing in French Oak.
Malbec is certainly not the only grape variety taking advantage of the most favourable high altitude growing conditions, the area supports a diversity well beyond its flagship grape variety. Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, the aromatic Torrontes, Chenin Blanc, Semillon and Chardonnay fare equally well producing wines of recognised quality and finesse.

Malbec, Finca Vista, Mendoza, “Finca Vista” translates to “Estate View”. The grapes for this wine have been carefully selected from three high quality vineyards in the Mendoza region; Lujan, Maipu and Junin. The vineyards are all over 40 years old and are situated at high altitude, close to the Andes Mountain range. The three vineyards are situated between 700 to 1,100 metres above sea level, from where the view is simply stunning. Deliciously fruity with notes of blackberry, plum, and black cherry. The light oak ageing gives soft and supple tannins and a long full finish.
