Fortified Wines such as Port Wine are a speciality of Alexander Hadleigh Wine Merchants based in Southampton, Hampshire in the UK. Our selection of Fortified Wines is very extensive and contains a range of styles and diverse tastes to suit the vast majority of keen followers and connoisseurs of fine Port Wine.
In Portugal , a Port House is often judged on its Tawny Port Wines, an area which Sandeman and Offley excel with a range of exceptional Port Wines. Its worth noteing, that in Portugal there is a strong argument that all Tawny Port Wine should be served chilled between 12 and 16c. We in the UK tend to judge our Port Wine on the quality of Late Bottled Vintage and also the style and finesse of a pure Vintage Port Wine when it is declared.
Alexander Hadleigh Wine Merchants do promote and can confidently recommend Port Wines of various expressions of elegance from the many Douro and Porto Port Wine Lodges, such as Warres, Fonseca, Croft, Taylors, Grahams, Dows and Cockburns. These top Port Wine Lodges have many of their vineyards located in the renown and superior growing regions around Pinhao, including the beautiful valleys of Tedo, Tavora and Torto. These regions which are planted mainly with the vines of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz are a guarantee that the afore mentioned Houses produce and supply only top quality Port Wines now and also for many past centuries.

Sandeman Late Bottled Vintage Port Wine is a style which is ready to drink, very pleasant and very hearty. A strong deep ruby coloured port, with a complex and intense bouquet providing flavours of mint supported by spicy notes of truffle and pepper. All leading to a complex palate with layer of fruit and spice.
Quinta do Noval Unfiltered late Bottled Vintage 2012 is a remarkable example of the Noval style. Treated exactly like a Vintage Port with only noble grape varieties from the Quinta, trodden by foot and unfiltered. Its main difference is that it is aged for four, sometimes five years in wooden vats instead of the two years typical of Vintage Ports. Definitely an LBV with a difference, with fine structured tannins, great freshness and purity of fruit. It is delicious to drink today, but will age beautifully in its bottle.
Offley Late Bottled Vintage Port Wine, Intense ruby colour with ripe red fruits predominate in its intense aroma, good complexity and harmony. A classic traditional late bottled vintage port wine which can be enjoyed young and will age well for some years.
Fonseca Terra Prima Reserve Port (organic) is a woderfully rich, concentrated port with great flavour and texture. It has an opulent black fruit nose which is followed through on the palate showing layers of intense berry, plum and cherry fruit flavours supported by firm, but well integrated tannins. A deliciously textured Reserve Port which is velvety, smooth, succulent and plump. Try with strong blue cheeses.
Noval 10 Year Old Tawny Port, Quinta do Noval, has a complex nose, aromas of vibrant, young fruit blend with the tertiary characteristics of dried fruits and nuts. Rich and smooth on the palate with an elegant structure and a long finish. It can be served slightly chilled as an aperitif, or as a digestive at the end of a meal.
Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port, Quinta Do Infantado has finess, concentration and tremendous depth, more like the intensity of a 20 year old vintage port.
Quinta do Portal Fine White Port is typically a blend of Malvasis Fina, Viosinho and Gouveio. The wine is aged for three years in old barrels where it acquires its burnt honey colour, floral aromas of rose petals and white peaches along with some orange zest and almonds. Best enjoyed chilled as an aperitif.
Warre\'s Bottle Matured LBV Port 2007 is a late bottled vintage port wine of a quality level much higher than many of its peers. This attractive wine is very concentrated with powerful amounts of fruit and the natural taste sensations of a fine mature port.
Taylor\'s Quinta de Terra Feita Single Quinta 2001 Vintage Port has a colour which is opaque purple red with magenta highlights. This has the intense berry fruit nose typical of Terra Feita, full of blackberry, cassis and black cherry aromas with hints of plum and liquorice. Round and full on the palate with ripe, mouth-filling tannins and sumptuous jammy fruit flavours on the finish. A superb fruit driven vintage port, true to the tradition of this ancient Pinhao Valley estate. Serve with strong blue cheeses and or roasted nuts with dried fruit.
Grahams Blend No5 White Port has fresh citrus tones with a touch of orange blossom. This is a special blend of Fine White Port designed to create the perfect Port & Tonic, ideally served chilled over ice with tonic water, a slice of lemon and sprig of fresh mint.
Quinta do Portal Fine Tawny Port is aged four years in the barrel and still shows off lots of fresh fruit on the nose, but already with some nutty notes. This fine Tawny Port is very smooth, clean and bright, with lots of fruity flavours on the tongue. The good balance between the fruit, tannins and oak provide the wine with a long lasting finish. Try as an aperitif or with delicate flavoured desserts.
Quinta do Portal Fine Ruby Port has been aged in wood for a minimum of three years and giving the wine a rich spicy nose. On the palate it displays vigour with lots of lively fruit plus hints of almonds and hazelnuts. The finish on the wine goes well with rich soft cheeses and chocolate style desserts.
Noval 20 Year Old Tawny Port, Quinta do Noval, Half Bottle, is a classic old Tawny colour with golden highlights. This port has an elegant bouquet reminiscent of dried fruit and almonds from its time in wood. Elegant velvety and concentrated on the palate with an attractive lingering finish.
Fonseca 10 Year Old Aged Tawny Port has a russet colour with brilliant crimson highlights and a fragrant, ripe-fruit bouquet. Its smooth silky texture and subtle oak nuances are balanced by a fresh acidity and good tannic structures that culminate in a long elegant finish. An excellent match chocolate desserts.
Taylor\'s 325th Anniversary Limited Edition Reserve Tawny Port has been made to mark and celebrate the 325th anniversay of the foundation of the house of Taylor\'s Port. Presented in the shape of a bottle from 1692, the oldest known example of a sealed Taylor\'s bottle found to date. This special wine has a deep chestnut brown colour encircled by a narrow brick rim. A rich figgy nose with a background of toffee and mocha, notes of plum and apricot, spicy hints of nutmeg and fleeting scents of jasmine. Dense and luscious on the palate, with a wonderful velvety smoothness. The mellow flavours of butterscotch and molasses merge with rich jammy red berry flavours, a perfect blend of youth and maturity. This reserve wine goes well with most desserts, especially chocolate bias. Try with soft blue cheeses with nuts or just enjoy on its own after a good meal.
Quinta Do Seixo Vintage Port 2013, Sandeman has a very intense bouquet with blackberry and cassis coming through on the first taste. There are also a good mix of deep nutty flavours on the finish. Will keep for years.
