Murcia is one of Spain's smaller, lesser-known regions. Tucked away in the country's far southeastern corner, it is bordered by Andalucia to the west, Castilla-La Mancha to the north, Valencia to the east and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. This small administrative region consists of just one province and one administrative center, both of which are also named Murcia. The classic Murcian wine is a robust, fruit-driven red made from Monastrell.
Apart from Monastrell, other notable grape varieties grown in Murcia include Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah for reds and Macabeo, Airen and Merseguera for whites.
The high vineyards of the Yecla DO are well positioned to grow Monastrell, which is the DO’s main variety, Garnacha is also permitted with experimental plantations of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Merlot. For white wines, Merseguero, Macabeo and Airen are prominent.
Yecla wines are known for the way they are aged and are beginning to appear on shelves of specialist wine merchants.
Valencia wines have revolved around rich, fruit-driven reds made from Monastrell. Traditionally, the region's wine portfolio has been spread across various styles: easy-drinking reds, whites and rosés, hefty doble pasta reds and fortified moscatels.

Molino Loco Monastrell Rosado, Yecla is a light pink colour in the glass with lots of fruity perfumes on the nose. Light in texture with soft fruit flavours that go well on the palate. A good lively finish.

Molino Loco Monastrell Tinto, Yecla is deep red in colour with purple hues. On the palate, the wine shows off a good mixture of rich dark fruits, including cherries, blackberries and blackcurrant, with a hint of soft warm spice.

Familia Castano Monastrell DO Yecla has a shiny cherry-red colour with violet reflections with intense aromas, ripe blueberries and raspberries. This monastrell is silky, well-structured and balanced. Though rich, it is fresh and pleasantly fruity on the palate with a lifted finish.
